House of Q Awarded Pacific Northwest BBQ Association’s Hall of Fame

In February, 2023, the Pacific Northwest BBQ Association awarded BBQ Brian Misko and his wife, Corinne Misko with their induction into the association’s Hall of Fame. They were presented with a plaque from their long-time mentor and Hall of Fame inductee Rockin’ Ronnie Shewchuk of North Vancouver, BC.

Hall of Fame Recognition

House of Q is well recognized in the Canadian BBQ community and BBQ Brian Misko, head Pitmaster and sauce creator at House of Q, has been seen for many years on Global TV BC Morning News, on CFOX Radio and the Jeff O’Neil Show and the Food Network Canada’s Fire Masters.  BBQ Brian says about House of Q…

One of the reasons we started our company is to share our love of BBQ and the flavours we craft to win awards at cooking events. Our products are now in jars and on hundreds of stores shelves with thousands of fans in many different countries but to be recognized by your peers in this manner is truly beyond my dreams!

There’s Always a BBQ Story to be Told…

For BBQ Brian there is always a story to be shared and the circumstances for the recognition is indeed a story…

At the Early Bird RV Show in Abbotsford, BC on February 19,  BBQ Brian was on-stage doing cooking demonstrations.  He had planned and arranged for his long-time mentor Ron Shewchuk to be in the audience.  The reason was that BBQ Brian and his original cook-mate Glenn Erho nominated “Rockin Ronnie Shewchuk” into the Pacific Northwest Barbecue Hall of Fame late in 2020.  However the recognition for Rockin Ronnie happened only virtually since the USA and Canadian border was closed and we weren’t allowed to be face-to-face.  So at the beginning of BBQ Brian’s Smash Burger demonstration, he was finally able to call to the stage Rockin’ Ronnie, formally acknowledge his mentor and BBQ-colleague with his plaque and induction into the Hall of Fame.  There were smiles and plenty of clapping!

The demonstration session continued as planned however there was more to the situation than what was evident to BBQ Brian.

As BBQ Brian was finishing his cooking session and about to sample the limited number of burgers for his audience, Rockin Ronnie hijacked the stage.  He jumped onto the platform and interrupted Brian’s session and announced to all there that he had a surprise to share.

Rockin’ Ronnie then read the nomination letter from long-time BBQ-colleague Pat Maddock from Washington state and presented a plaque to Corinne and BBQ Brian Misko that they are the latest inductees into the Pacific Northwest Barbecue Association’s Hall of Fame!

The award was captured on video where you can see the surprise on both Corinne and Brian’s face.

Having a “double” award ceremony where one of the recipients doesn’t even know that it was going to happen takes planning and a lot of secrets! Maybe that fact alone demonstrates the characters in the BBQ community… they are more than passing acquaintances and someone you say hello to in a parking lot at a BBQ event. They, in time, share their knowledge, their wisdom, their experience and whenever it may occur, they can rely on the community for help and guidance. It is not out of the ordinary for BBQ teams to cheer and applaud their ‘competitors” at award ceremonies. What other sport does that?!

Congratulations to Rockin Ronnie Shewchuk to finally receive his award. He is an award winning BBQ chef, author of three BBQ cookbooks and long-time mentor to BBQ Brian. What a great day this was!
